The Limbo Meme

You’re not sure how it happened, or maybe you are. Was it a hero’s death, or the desperate last moments of a coward? Maybe you died to protect someone, maybe you fell on your own sword, maybe you passed away peacefully in your bed one night, or maybe you were taken out by force. Whatever the reason, you are now neither here nor there, no pearly gates or brimstone in sight. This is what they call “limbo”, a liminal space made not to exist in, but to pass through on your way to a more finite destination. Even so, there’s no telling how long you might be stuck here, nor who you might encounter.
Directions:
-create a top level, either blank or with a prompt or preferences
-select a number, letter, or combination of the two from the lists below if you wish
-tag others and enjoy being dead
(OTA all canon characters and OCs)
How long have you been here?
1. Newly dead; You haven’t been here long. Maybe you don’t remember how you got here, or maybe you do. You might be scared, confused, disheartened, or even relieved. You’re not the only one drifting through this strange place, so maybe you should ask a familiar - or unfamiliar - face what’s going on.
2. Getting your footing; You’re not exactly a seasoned death veteran, but you’ve been here a while, and whether you like it or not, you’re almost starting to get used to this place - but when will it be time to move on? And who’s that new person who just arrived? That person in the corner has been here as long as you have, if not longer. Maybe you should talk to them.
3. A seasoned spirit; You’ve been here for years, or decades, or centuries. Perhaps you’ve learned how to drift in and out with how long you’ve been dwelling in this strange place. You could give a newbie some advice, or maybe ease the frustration of someone who has been here not quite long enough to accept what their existence has become - that they’ll become you. Then again, maybe you’re just angry you’re still stuck here at all.
What are you doing?
A. Asking questions; How did you get here? How did you die? Will you ever see your family or friends again? Is that one of them? When will you move on to the next stage? Who’s that weird guy standing in the corner over there? You’ve got questions and you want answers.
B. Facing your killer; You know how you got here, you know who’s responsible, but do you know exactly what you’d have to say to them if you saw them? Well, you better figure it out - they’re standing right in front of you.
C. Facing your victim; Well, this is awkward. At some point in the past, you made a decision, and now that decision has quite literally come back to haunt you. The person for whom’s death you are responsible is standing right in front of you, and they are probably going to want some answers
D. A familiar face; Maybe you’re new here, or maybe you’ve been here for years; either way, you’ve just seen a familiar face, whether it be a long lost loved one, or someone you never expected to follow you so soon in death. What will you say to them?
E. Wildcard; Go crazy! Any number of things can happen when your soul is trapped between dimensions. Strike up a conversation with a stranger, explore any strange new powers you might discover as a ghost, haunt one of the living, etc. The possibilities are endless!
pressin f to pay respects
someone answered him? judging by the voice there's only one person he can think of who's coming to greet him.
guess it pays to be loud sometimes. ]
...Ann? That you? [ sure 'nuff.
[ what a relief to see a familiar face right now, though admittedly he's a little surprised to see Ann of all people emerge from the fog. there's something very off about this reunion however. something that has Ryuji on edge and yet he can't seem to identify what it is.
is it because she looks so sad to see him? after all, any other time she'd be chiding him for being too loud. it could also be the fact that she looks incredibly worn down despite the lack of shadows around. or maybe it's the fact that no one else has come to join them yet.
maybe it's All of the Above. ]
Whaddya mean you don't know? Where'd everyone else go?
[ don't ask questions you don't want the answer to, dude... ]
fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff
Ryuji seems a little oblivious about the precarious situation that they've found themselves in. But the lack of their other friends is just a little bit more comforting, because if they're not here, it means that they should still be safe. She hopes, for their sake, that they don't show up here for a very long time, which is a double edged sword because the thought of this is more than a little upsetting, and it's hard not to entirely freak out about it.
She can't, though. Not right now, because she doesn't want to really panic Ryuji. So, she reaches out to place a hand on his shoulder. It's funny, because he feels just as warm and as solid as ever, even here. But the gesture is meant to be a comforting one, at least. ]
I don't think they're coming, Ryuji... I think... it's just us right now. I think... I don't think we're alive anymore.
1/2 :'/
[ he's either still painfully oblivious to the situation or still deeply in denial about it. regardless of the reason, he stands there quietly for a moment staring back at Ann in disbelief. his eyebrows furrow as he tries to process this very jarring news.
she really dropped a bomb on him, huh?
[ but him? dead? that can't be right. surely he'd remember if he actually died. now true, he can't remember much of what happened right before he woke up here, but there could be several other, more plausible explanations for what happened that don't involve his death. just the thought that he could be dead doesn't even seem real to him. ]
2/2 robolox voice: oof
he snickers, brushing Ann's hand off his shoulder. ]
Man, your actin's gotten real good. You seriously had me goin' there for a sec!
[ ...why isn't she laughing? ]
Now for real though. Where's everyone?
[ for what it's worth, the first stage of grief is in fact denial ]
the biggest oof tbh
I'm not... acting.
[ She wishes she was, though. Her own shoulders drop a little bit, and she glances off to the side, before she takes a few paces away from him. ]
Not here. I hope.
[ Ann doesn't know what she'd do if more of their friends showed up, honestly. Then again, if this is death, doesn't that mean this place is HUGE? Infinitely huge, in every literal sense. She doesn't know that they could ever even find their friends even if they were here. And thinking about that, it's a chilling thought to think that she and Ryuji could get separated and never see each other again for that matter. It's enough to have her wrapping her arms around herself and shuddering. ]
...I think it's just you and I.
oof and, i can't stress this next part enough, ouchie
slowly realizing that Ann has yet to give up on the act, Ryuji’s laughter begins to die down. ]
C'mon...what're ya—
[ his voice trails off. it's beginning to sink in. he's dead.
admittedly, he wasn't ready to accept this just yet. this whole time Ryuji had been clinging desperately to the idea and, up until this very moment, had almost convinced himself that this was all a dream he was due to wake up from at any moment. now the illusion has been completely shattered. any remaining sense of joy or relief he’d felt is replaced by a deep sense of dread at the situation. he’s frozen in place. he feels cold. numb. he can't even process how to feel or what to think.
it's "just them?" what does that even MEAN?! where even ARE they? what's he supposed to do now? what's gonna happen to them? none of this makes sense to him.
he shakes his head, furiously, pacing back and forth as the shock begins to subside. ]
No…no no no no no NO!! This ain’t happenin’ it— gah! This can’t be happenin’!
[ eventually his legs give out and he falls to the ground. ]
God DAMMIT!!
