[As Gansey takes the last few muddy, uncertain steps onto the bank, he finds himself grateful for Darlington’s lightheartedness. He’s not all the certain that he entirely believes it, but he’s grateful nonetheless. Darlington isn’t much older than him (and its not as if he doesn’t have much older colleagues that he has regularly rubs shoulders with), but at times like this, someone with a little more age and experience, who is perhaps a little less seventeen and a little more certain, can prove to be quite a comfort to have around; furthermore, it gives Gansey energy to mirror. And so, he responds lightheartedly in return.]
